Asphalt Repair

Asphalt erodes over time and can develop cracks and it will also begin to fade or deteriorate in color. Water can then seep into asphalt holes and cracks and may freeze and expand, causing the surrounding asphalt to crack and break and it’s inevitable that larger cracks and pot holes will start forming.

Asphalt surfaces, however, can be repaired. Asphalt can be patched using two different methods: surface patching and removal/replacement patching.

Surface patching involves asphalt-based glue being spread over the affected area, where hot asphalt later gets applied onto the damaged surface. This method is the most inexpensive, thanks to its simplicity.

Removal/replacement asphalt repair is considered a more permanent repairing method. It’s used when the asphalt suffers a significant amount of damage. The damaged asphalt is removed by cutting the eroded asphalt away from the healthier foundation. After leveling of the area, fresh asphalt is added to the area.

Which method makes sense depends on how bad the damage actually is, and that’s something we look at in person rather than guess over the phone. A few isolated potholes in a Vancouver parking lot might just need surface patching. A driveway in Camas or Washougal that’s been heaving through a few winters of freeze and thaw might need the full removal and replacement. We’ve seen both plenty of times around Clark County, and the wet PNW winters here are usually what’s behind it — water gets under the asphalt, freezes, and takes the surface with it when it expands.

Cost really comes down to how much area needs work and which method it needs, so we’d rather come look at it than throw out a number that doesn’t mean anything. If the damage is limited to cracking and hasn’t turned into potholes yet, our crack repair service is usually the cheaper fix and can keep you from needing this kind of repair down the line. And once repairs are done, a seal coat afterward goes a long way toward keeping new damage from starting again.

We handle repair work for homes and businesses throughout Battle Ground, Vancouver, Ridgefield, Hazel Dell and the rest of Clark County — give us a call and we can usually get out to take a look within a few days.
